TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Headquarters have prepared anticipatory steps to secure the National Sports event or PON in Papua to prevent possible terror threats from armed groups or KKB, as listed by the authorities.

"Various things have been identified that are likely to arise, one of which is interference from the KKB. It has been identified, and of course also the Police, TNI and other agencies have prepared steps to prevent the disruption caused by the KKB," said the Head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police, Brig. Gen. Rusdi Hartono, at his office in South Jakarta on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

He emphasized that all aspects of security had been carefully measured and set, including the security of people, goods, locations, and activities. "Of course we all hope that PON in Papua can run safely and peacefully. Please pray," said Rusdi.

Previously, in a meeting with the Legal Commission of the House of Representatives (DPR) on September 15, Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Boy Rafli Amar asked all parties to be aware of the possibility of terror acts occurring in the XX PON event.

"We have given input to always increase vigilance," said Boy. He added that terror acts could be carried out by ISIS groups or armed criminal groups.
