TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Jentera School of Law lecturer Bivitri Susanti in an online discussion on Tuesday said the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is a different entity compared to what it was known to be in the past, which she noted is reflected in the abundance issues related to the anti graft watchdog.

She argues that the problems KPK faces now is a result of the attempt to weaken the organization since 2019 starting from the issuance of the KPK Law, total organizational redesign, and attempts to rule out employees that failed to pass its controversial civics test (TWK).

“Not only that, during the same year in 2019 we also saw a new appointed commissioner with a bad track record, and is proven to this day,” said Bivitri in the discussion on September 14.

Bivitri believed the issues are structurally-related as the problems KPK is facing are an interconnectable series of issues. “Don’t isolate [the problems], try to piece it together and see clearly that all of this is an attempt to make KPK’s existence only through the headquarters,” she added.

The lecturer of law suspects the watchdog is being run as a political machine used by the groups within the organization.
