TEMPO.CO, Cirebon - Mysterious mass death of sparrows was found again today, September 14, 2021, in Cirebon, West Java, or precisely at the city hall yard. A similar bird mass die-off recently took place in Gianyar, Bali, where hundreds of birds suddenly fell down from trees.

The veterinary medical team of Cirebon City had collected and examined samples of the birds to find out the cause of the mass death. The samples would be sent to a laboratory in Bandung or Subang.

“The examination will take time,” said the veterinary medical team’s member, Tri Angka, on Tuesday, September 14.

Tri said this was the first time that such an incident occurred in Cirebon City. He strongly assumed that it was due to extreme weather because rain showered the area since last night until the birds were found dead on Tuesday morning. Another cause was possibly poisoning from pesticides.

The mass death of sparrows shocked janitors at Cirebon City Hall on Tuesday morning. The birds fell from the same tree. Earlier on Tuesday morning, the city and its surrounding areas were hit by rain with a moderate intensity which lasted until Tuesday afternoon.

Previously, a mass number of sparrows dropping dead in Gianyar, Bali, caused public shock. It was believed to be due to sudden extreme weather or poison in the air.
