TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Supreme Audit Agency or BPK said that based on empirical evidence, the crisis period such as the COVID-19 pandemic tends to increase the risk of financial statement fraud. In response to the fact, BPK thus launched a risk-based comprehensive audit of 241 audit objects.

The response was one of the agency’s roles in improving efforts to detect and prevent acts of corruption.

“BPK has identified problems related to the identification and codification of the COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery (PC-PEN) budget as well as its realization, the accountability and report of PC-PEN budget and the management of pandemic programs,” said BPK Chairman Agung Firman Sampurna in a written statement Tuesday, September 14.

BPK Deputy Chairman Agus Joko Pramono also explained the role of his agency in eradicating corruption. The agency carried out Fraud Risk Assessment in the prevention efforts, inspections in the detection efforts, and investigations to obtain evidence of fraud.

Agus went on to say that BPK also provided litigation support by presenting expert testimony in trials.
