TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A survey by Bank Indonesia (BI) predicts that retail sales performance in August 2021 was still contracted by 0.1 percent (yoy). However this is better than in July 2021, when the contraction was 2.9 percent.

"This is supported by performance improvements in almost all groups, especially the automotive fuel group, food, beverages and tobacco, all of which posted positive growths," the central bank said in a written statement in Jakarta, Thursday, September 9.

Retail sales in August 2021 is estimated at 196.5 or growing by 4.3 percent from the previous month.

Respondents said that the positive outlook was in line with the people's increasing mobility. "Following the eased restrictions on people's activities and increasing domestic demand," BI wrote.

In terms of prices, respondents predicted higher inflationary pressures in October 2021 and January 2022. The General Price Expectation Index (IEH) in October 2021 is estimated at 123, higher than in the previous month.
