TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi in the Indonesia-Australia bilateral meeting on Thursday conveyed Indonesia's hope that Afghanistan will not be made into a training site for terrorist organizations after the Taliban takeover.

“Indonesia hopes Afghanistan will not be made into a new breeding ground and terrorist organization training site and activities that threaten regional stability and peace,” said Retno Marsudi on September 9.

She made a similar statement when the Minister met a Taliban representative in person at Qatar on August 26, Antaranews reported.

Minister Retno asserted the importance of building an inclusive government in Afghanistan that respects and progresses human rights and the rights of women and children.

Echoing this statement, Australia Minister for Foreign Affairs Marise Payne also highlighted the need for Taliban leaders to respect women and children’s rights. Payne mentioned Indonesia’s role as a Muslim-majority country and its ability to have a firm voice in this issue.
