TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Foreign Affairs Ministry took to Twitter on Thursday denouncing the heinous terrorist attack near Kabul airport in Afghanistan that reportedly killed dozens and left more severely injured.
The tweet from the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s official account read: "Indonesia strongly condemns the terrorist attacks near Kabul Airport (26/8) which killed dozens and injured many."
Citing Reuters, two blasts and gunfire rocked the area outside the airport on Thursday evening, witnesses said. Video shot by Afghan journalists showed dozens of bodies strewn around a canal on the edge of the airport.
A health official and a Taliban official said the toll of Afghans killed had risen to 72, including 28 Taliban members, although a Taliban spokesman later denied that any of their fighters guarding the airport perimeter had been killed.
Meanwhile, Aljazeera reported Thursday that the Afghan affiliate of the ISIL (ISIS), known as the Islamic State Khorasan Province, ISKP (ISIS-K), claimed responsibility for the attack.
Russian officials said two suicide bombers and gunmen had targeted crowds massing near Kabul airport. Turkish officials confirmed there were two separate blasts.
