TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Suharso Monoarfa, the Minister of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Head, explained the latest developments of the new capital city construction project to the House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission XI, today, September 1.

Suharso clarified that the project could not be completed in a short time. “It is impossible for us to build a state capital in 2, 3, or 4 years. In the Bappenas master plan, it is predicted to take 15 to 20 years,” he said before the commission members as streamed on YouTube today.

He explained the construction project plan of the nation's capital might take 15 to 20 years. “It's then a matter of dividing the segmentation, about when each segment starts,” he added.

The legal umbrella such as the Bill on the State Capital has been ready. “We just have to wait for the pandemic situation,” Suharso informed.

Today's hearing discussed two issues, namely the Bappenas’ budget work plan in the draft of 2022 State Budget Law and the Bappenas’ financial report in the 2020 State Budget.

According to Bappenas Chief, the new capital city project is syncronized with the master plan and the National Strategic Area Spatial Plan (RTR KSN). Suharso also explained the obstacles in planning the relocation of the country's capital, including adaptation to the Covid-19 pandemic.
