TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in his acceptance speech at the event dubbed the 2021 JaKreatiFest said the capital city is an important aspect in Indonesia’s economic recovery as a whole due to the city’s major contribution at a national scale.

“Jakarta is a province that has a sizeable contribution for Indonesia’s economy and this is an important aspect when we talk about national recovery,” said the governor on Monday, August 30.

Citing Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Jakarta is still the major economic contributor as the second quarter in 2020 the capital city contributed 17 percent towards the GDP, followed by East and West Java.

Baswedan said Jakarta’s economic growth during this year’s second quarter logged results at a positive zone of 10.9 percent, which he said is a sign of economic recovery. He called for businesses to make use of the economic momentum.

Jakarta’s Gross Regional Domestic Product during the second quarter of 2021 reached Rp721.5 trillion.

The Covid-19 mass vaccination is also a key element in the national recovery and has inoculated 9.6 million people, which exceeded its initial goal and logged a 107.7 percent vaccination rate.
