TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government on Monday officially reopened schools and marked the reintroduction of physical attendance schooling after students were limited to virtual schooling for more than a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria, in his Instagram video today, called for students to abide by health protocols.

“To all students, we believe you will abide by instructions from parents and teachers which I am certain you will all stay disciplined under the existing health protocol,” said the deputy.

The classroom schooling in Jakarta is overseen under the Jakarta Governor’s Decree No.1026/2021 on public activity restriction level 3 (PPKM Level 3). A policy that is based on a regulation by the central government and joint decision from three state ministries amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Schools are limited to 50 percent capacity except for SDLB, MILB, SMPLB, SMLB, and MALB, where attendance is 62 percent and 100 percent. Students will be seated 1.5 meters apart with a maximum of 5 students per class.

Governor Anies Baswedan assures that students attending school are not exclusively for those who have been vaccinated as this decision is based on the students’ parents.
