Fewer Sting Operation in KPK, Deputy Chief: Corruptors Learn New Strategies

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy Alexander Marwata on Tuesday acknowledged there were currently fewer sting operations (OTT) from his institution, which he blamed on the dropping number of human resources amidst the Covid-19 public activity restriction (PPKM).
He also claimed that past sting operations were possible due to the carelessness of the graft suspects in executing suspicious transactions. The deputy believed corruptors have learned the tricks to evade detection through facts that were revealed in court.
“The OTTs depend on the negligence of the mobile phone users, when they were less careful in using it to communicate, which becomes our lead,” said Alex at the KPK headquarters on August 24. “They are now much more careful in using their mobile phone ahead of a transaction.”
Another aspect in the reduced number of sting operations is the Covid-19 pandemic, where there are fewer available employees tasked to monitor the wire tapping. However, he assured that KPK continues to find other solutions to act upon corruptors through a case building approach.
