TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government decided to reinclude the Covid-19 death data from the assessment of the public mobility restrictions level or PPKM. The death tally had been set aside for two weeks since the government carried out data corrections.

“Corrections of death numbers in several areas are getting better, and many unreported cases of deaths have been submitted,” said the Java-Bali PPKM Coordinator Luhut Binsar Panjaitan at an online press conference, Monday, August 23.

Luhut explained the effect, however, would be significant, such as the surge in the number of confirmed cases and death cases. “Regarding the high mortality rate in several regions, the President specifically asks for immediate checks and interventions,” he added.

According to him, the high mortality rate was also attributable to the public reluctance to undergo self-isolation at the centralized isolation sites, resulting in the late arrival to healthcare facilities when their health deteriorated.

“On this basis, the government appeals to people who are confirmed positive for Covid-19 to immediately enter isolation centers. Tested positive for Covid-19 is not a shame that must be hidden. Let’s prevent it early,” Luhut underlined.
