TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The new daily cases of Covid-19 recorded in the Yogyakarta region is currently dipping on Wednesday after the special region logged another all time low of 700 daily cases. Active cases have also dropped considerably despite remaining above 20,000 cases.

“Confirmed Covid-19 cases today was 634 with 22,729 active cases,” said the region’s coronavirus task force team spokesperson, Berty Murtaningsih on August 18.

This latest statistic goes even lower than what was recorded on Monday, August 16, of 702 cases. This means the overall daily cases is starting to return to mid-June when at the time Yogyakarta started to experience a rise in daily cases of 638 on June 19.

Murtaningsih said the growing number of people recovering from Covid-19 today is 2,311 cases with a total 113,768 recoveries from a total confirmed 140,900 cases.

“However, there are 33 additional deaths today and making the total number of deaths to 4,403 cases,” she said.

Yogyakarta secretary Kadarmanta Baskara Aji said the public activity restriction (PPKM) has been extended in the region that will last for another week until August 23 but with a few adjustments that will loosen the restrictions.
