TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government continued to develop five priority projects which will be ready for inauguration this August, as stated by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, in an event with Tempo, Ngobrol@Tempo, on August 18, 2021.
The projects include dams, highways, drinking water, housing, and school rehabilitation. These are prioritized based on their urgency for the community.
"In 2021, there are 4 dams that are ready to be inaugurated until August, [namely] Way Sekampung in Lampung, Kuningan in West Java, Pasaloreng in South Sulawesi, and Bendo in East Java," said the minister, adding that there will be 13 dams ready by the end of this year.
On top of that, there are several toll roads that will be ready this month, which include the Serang-Panimbang toll road, the Jakarta inner-city toll road which is included in 6 toll roads, and the Brebes-Tegal ring road. Other infrastructures are Sukawati Market in Bali, the venues for the U-20 World Cup in Bandung, Surakarta, and Denpasar, as well as landfills in Jambi, Malang and Sidoarjo.
The Minister said that the two main considerations for the prioritized infrastructure developments are those that are needed by the people as well as creating job opportunities.
The Minister of National Development Planning Suharso Monoarfa, who also attended the same event, stated that other than its urgency to the community, infrastructure development in Indonesia is also there to create job opportunities. “At the same time it also provides job opportunities. It is also very important that we encourage it,” said Suharso.
