TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry is targeting for the construction of nine new toll roads to be completed over the next four years.
From the second half of this year until the beginning of 2021, the ministry will expedite the signing of agreements for the exploitation of eight new toll roads spanning 374 kilometers, with an investment value of almost Rp100 trillion.
The ministry's head of Toll Road Regulatory Agency, Danang Parikesit, said the toll roads need to be completed immediately to connect a number of new economic growth centers, especially in Java and Bali.
"In addition to integrating infrastructures, [the toll roads] will support the development of priority tourist locations and industrial areas," he told Tempo, Monday, September 14.
According to Danang, the eight infrastructure projects on the priority list will also be complemented by the completion of the Patimban Port Access Toll Road, targeted to operate at the end of President Joko Widodo's second term. All of them are targeted for completion in the period of 2021 to 2024.
"It is hoped that all projects will have begun construction work, and that there would be no obstacles," he said.
