Expert Reacts to Anies Baswedan's Claim on Covid-19 Positivity Rate at Below 10%

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan claimed the level of Covid-19 transmission in the capital city or known as the positivity rate was below 10 percent. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended the safe rate at below 5 percent.
Meanwhile, based on data issued by the Pandemic Team of the University of Indonesia Faculty of Public Health (FKM UI) on August 14, the Covid-19 effective reproductive number (Rt) in Jakarta was at 1.00, while the safe limit is below 1.00.
“It's starting to get under control, but it can't be said that it's already under control,” the FKM UI’s epidemiologist Iwan Ariawan told Tempo on Wednesday, August 18.
The Covid-19 Rt value in Jakarta has also decreased from the previous calculation on August 7 which was at 1.01. Iwan said the FKM UI Pandemic Team calculated the Covid-19 Rt and submitted it to Governor Anies Baswedan every week.
Rt Covid-19, Iwan explained, is one of the indicators used by the government to evaluate the multi-tier public mobility restrictions or PPKM. Based on the indicators, Jakarta is still at level 4 PPKM.
Iwan further opined that Jakarta should remain at level 4 PPKM until the next evaluation of the indicators of Covid-19 transmission on August 23.
