TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The president director of Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) and PT Satelit Nusantara III (SNT) Adi Rahman Adiwoso on Wednesday announced that Indonesia’s satellite SATRIA I project is 33 percent completed.

“This will be the largest satellite Indonesia owns in Asia which will have a lifespan of 15 years and is 6.5 meter tall. It will also become one of the largest in the world,” Adiwoso claimed during the construction ‘groundbreaking’ for the satellite’s station in Cikarang on August 18.

The SATRIA project is built upon a government and business entities partnership (KPBBU) scheme that will take up investments up to US$540 million.

The Communication and Informatics Ministry (KOMINFO) along with the Information Telecommunications Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) acts as project managers while SNT is appointed as the implementer.

The project has appointed PT Surveyor Indonesia as the independent supervisory consultant and PT Penjamin Infrastruktur Indonesia as the infrastructure guarantor for the project that was initiated in 2019.

Upon constructing the satellite, French contractor Thales Alenia Space will take charge while the project’s consortium has appointed China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) NWIEE to develop the satellite gateway.

U.K.-based Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc have been appointed as monitoring contractors while United States’ HUGHES will be in charge for satellite SATRIA’s IP Hub development. The satellite’s launch will see the government partner with SpaceX.
