TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In the commemoration of 76th anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that the Covid-19 pandemic had reminded the state to protect its citizens without exception, regardless of their social or economy status.
Today is the second year of Indpendence Day ceremony held in limited state in the capital city due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"This pandemic gave us a chance to reaffirm our priority that the state is there to protect each of its people," he said in his speech as the inspector of the Independence Day Ceremony broadcasted live on Tuesday, August 17.
Anies said that Jakarta City implements such principle. The capital city administration tries to provide protections for everyone in the city, regardless their identity, social, and economy status. For example, through the administration of Covid-19 vaccines.
On July 31, Anies Baswedan said that Jakarta had fulfilled the target set by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi to inoculate 7.5 million people with first Covid-19 vaccine doses. "From the figure, 4.5 million were the capital city residents, while the rest 3 million were non-Jakarta residents."
