TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan called on residents not to celebrate the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia in ways that could attract crowds. People are also asked not to hold competitions, musical performances, and other celebratory activities.
"Celebrate Indonesia's Independence Day at home with families," Anies wrote in an notification.
Anies issued the Jakarta Gubernatorial Appeal No. 12 of 2021 regarding events on the celebration of the 76th Indonesia's Independence Day in 2021. The notification was signed on August 13, 2021.
The notification highlights five important points. First, residents are not allowed to hold celebrations that will result in crowds. Second, Independence Day on August 17, 2021, should be celebrated at home.
Third, residents must always follow and obey the predetermined health protocols against Covid-19 when decorating their homes, villages, workplaces, and others in commemoration of Independence Day.
Fourth, Jakartans are asked to jointly oversee the implementation of the health orders and vaccinations in all areas of the capital city. The last point of Anies Baswedan's notification is, "Let's protect ourselves and our families by getting vaccines."
