TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police on Tuesday apprehended a nurse identified as E.O. who law enforcers say was the vaccinator in the empty syringe viral video that rocked the social media in the last couple of days.
The nurse was officially named a suspect after a police investigation found that she had been negligent in this one case and mistakenly gave one recipient an empty jab. Metro Jaya Police noted ‘unintentional negligence’ as the nurse had given 599 vaccine shots that day.
“[The suspect] had vaccinated roughly 599 people and it was basically negligence and she failed to check it twice,” said Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Sr. Commissioner Yusri Yunus on August 10.
According to the police spokesman, the suspect works as a nurse at a clinic and had registered as a Covid-19 vaccinator volunteer. She had served numerous people since joining the volunteer group.
In the press conference, the suspect said that what she did was unintentional and apologized for causing public disruption.
“And because of this incident I will follow the entire process that I will face in the future, I truly apologize,” the nurse said. She is facing one year imprisonment under Article 14 of Law No.4/1984.
The viral video of a student being injected with what looked like an empty syringe during a Covid-19 vaccination went viral on Twitter after an account @Irwan2yah spread the video on the internet.
