TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said the government would immediately submit the revision of the Environmental Impact Analysis (Amdal) for Komodo National Park to UNESCO no later than September 2021. According to him, the Environment and Forestry Ministry (KLHK) is still preparing the revision.

“I have been informed by the KLHK’s Natural Resource and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) Directorate General that the revision will be completed in August-September 2021 and be submitted to the WHC (UNESCO World Heritage Site),” said Sandiaga in a written statement as quoted on Tuesday, August 10.

Previously reported, UNESCO asked the Indonesian government to temporarily stop the infrastructure projects in Komodo National Park and its surrounding areas over concerns about the natural habitat of the Komodo dragon.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature or IUCN and WHC would review the Amdal revision before the 45th session which will be held in February 2022.

While revising the Amdal, the government was designing the Labuan Bajo Integrated Tourism Master Plan (ITMP). Sandiaga Uno also said the development of Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park would consider market potential, both domestic and international markets, and future tourism trends after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We continue to negotiate and discuss with the local community. We emphasize that this development prioritizes environmental sustainability,” he said.
