TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Reduced people’s mobility during the public activity restrictions dubbed PPKM Level 4 was not in line with the slowing trend in the daily Covid-19 cases in Yogyakarta.

On Tuesday, July 27, the city broke yet another new record both in daily cases and deaths. “Today, the number of confirmed cases in Yogyakarta increased by 2,732, and the number of deaths rose by 104,” said the Regional Covid Task Force spokesperson Berty Murtiningsih on Tuesday, July 27.

The previous records were on July 13 with 2,731 new cases, and on July 23 with new 97 deaths in a day.

“The total number of confirmed cases is 110,177, while the number of deaths hits 3,107,” said Berti, adding that current active cases amounted to 34,755.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan on July 25 said that most provinces reported a downward trend in positive cases. However, the drop in daily trends in several provinces was not too significant or tended to be high, including Yogyakarta, Central Java, and Bali.

Luhut also said the people’s mobility rate in Yogyakarta had fallen by 30 percent after the restrictions were enforced. “(The decline in mobility) has improved from the previous evaluation which only decreased by 15 percent,” he added. Luhut was confident reduced mobility would certainly be able to suppress the number of Covid-19 cases.
