Anies Baswedan: Covid-19 Cases in Jakarta Drops But Still Far from Ideal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan asked the public to keep the improvement in the Covid-19 pandemic handling in the capital city. He said there was a downward trend in positive cases albeit it was not yet ideal.
“The downward trend [in Covid-19 cases] is clearly visible, but this situation is still far from ideal,” said Anies in a video uploaded to the Jakarta Provincial Government’s Youtube account on Monday, July 26.
Anies said the city’s current active cases decreased to 64,000, from about 113,000 active cases on July 16, 2021.
The consistent decline, he opined, was in line with the downward trend in several other parameters, such as the Covid-19 positivity rate which was previously around 45 percent to 25 percent. The number of Covid-19 burials also decreased from 350 per day to 200 per day.
Anies went on to say that there were no more queues of Covid-19 patients in the emergency room. This means patients arriving at the hospitals could receive treatment immediately.
However, Anies Baswedan reminded that the occupancy rate of ICUs and isolation beds remained high. As of July 25, 73 percent or 8,632 out of 11,761 isolation beds were occupied and 89 percent or 1,454 of 1,626 ICU rooms were occupied by confirmed Covid-19 patients.
