TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has officially asked the East Java provincial government to take extra steps to enforce the emergency public activity restriction (emergency PPKM) as he believes the province is still recording a high Covid-19 positivity rate.

“The East Java province needs additional attempts to better its public activity restriction,” said the Vice President, Antaranews reported.

The positivity rate logged by the province based on the standard set by the World Health Organization (WHO) is still considerably high despite conducting tests above the national average.

“The testing in the province already exceeds the WHO standard but its positivity rate is also above the WHO standard,” said Ma’ruf Amin.

The WHO has the minimum threshold for the rate of positive cases of Covid-19 of 5 percent, which is far from the province’s recorded 39.4 percent.

East Java governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa explained that the vaccine doses from the central government have been distributed to sub-districts and cities in the province which aligns with the government’s accelerated mass-vaccination program.
