TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin in a virtual meeting on Sunday addressed his concern for the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday and how Muslims should celebrate the day without increasing the risk of new Covid-19 clusters. In the meeting, he urged Islamic mass-organizations to ensure just that.

“[The mass-organizations] all agreed to avoid creating new clusters during the Eid al-Adha that would only add to the already high Covid-19 transmission rate,” said the Vice President on Sunday evening, July 18.

During the virtual meeting, the VP insists that Islamic organizations are responsible for the condition that the country may face in the future regarding Covid-19 and claims they all agreed, through creating a collective statement, to celebrate the holy day while always abiding by health protocols.

The Islamic Eid al-Adha is slated for Tuesday, July 20.

There were public figures present in-person during the meeting held at the VP’s house, among them were Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Qalil Qoumas and Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Yusnar Yusuf.
