Anies Baswedan: Workers' Mobility in Non-essential Sectors Remain High

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, together with the Kodam Jaya Commander and Metro Jaya Police Chief on Wednesday, monitored the arrival of workers at one of the city’s busiest train stations in Cikini, Central Jakarta.
The governor said that many companies still require its workers to go to the office despite not being categorized as businesses in the essential and critical sectors. He insisted that the company must be responsible for the safety of their workers amidst the enforcement of the emergency PPKM (public activity restriction).
“We witnessed many of these workers were ordered to be present at their offices even though they don't work in the essential sector. Many of them work in hotels, as store clerks, plantation firms, and mining companies,” said Anies Baswedan in his visit to Cikini Station.
The latest policy bans non-essential businesses from requiring its employees to be present at the office to help suppress Covid-19 spread.
“This is not about profits and losses, but this is about lives,” the governor asserted.
The Jakarta Administration will visit the businesses that still force workers to be present at the office.
