TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday, July 1, officially announced the enforcement of a stricter public mobility restriction touted as the emergency PPKM or emergency public activity restrictions which will be effective from July 3 to 20.
He went on to assure the public that the Health Ministry will continue to increase the capacity of hospitals, isolation facilities, medical equipment and drug supplies, as well as oxygen for Covid-19 patients.
“I ask Indonesians to remain calm and vigilant, obey the existing rules, and stay disciplined in imposing the health protocols and support the pandemic mitigation,” said President Jokowi in a Youtube video on July 1.
The emergency PPKM will include stricter activity restrictions than the previous Covid-19 restrictions that done since the pandemic began in early 2020.
As reported earlier, this restriction will be enforced in the islands of Java and Bali, following the surge of cases that was solely blamed on the spread of the new coronavirus strains, which have faster transmission rates.
“All state apparatus, the military (TNI) and the national police (Polri), as well as state civil apparatus, doctors, and health workers, must work hand in hand to deal with this pandemic,” Jokowi said.
