TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Ministry decided to convert all emergency rooms at Jakarta hospitals into isolation rooms for COVID-19 patients. This policy was taken to increase the capacity of isolation beds.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin announced the central government’s decision in an online press conference today, June 25.

“We will convert all ERs into isolation rooms to accommodate COVID patients who have arrived at the hospitals,” said Budi in Jakarta.

Thus, the emergency services are carried out in an emergency tent in the hospital yard.

Budi explained the emergency tent was intentionally designated outside of the hospital so that non-COVID patients did not need to enter the emergency room.

“BNPB (National Disaster Mitigation Center) helps provide the tents so hospitals can use their ER as an isolation center,” Budi Gunadi added.

A number of hospitals in Jakarta experienced overflowing patients in line with the explosion of COVID-19 cases across the capital. Even at Kramat Jati Hospital, the hospital lobby had been converted into an isolation room to accommodate the overwhelming number of patients.
