Jakarta Records 180 Covid-19 Burials in 24 hours

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta is seeing a surge in the number of Covid-19 burials. According to authorities' data, in the last three days more than 130 bodies have been buried using Covid-19 protocols.
"Jakarta is not only experiencing a surge in positive cases, but also in the number of burials with Covid-19 protocols," the Jakarta Health Office's head of disease prevention and control, Dwi Oktavia, said in a written statement, June 24.
According to Dwi, 150 people were buried under Covid protocols on June 22. The next day, the number rose to 180.
By Thursday noon, June 23, there were 132 bodies buried according to the Covid-19 protocol.
"We cannot let this situation continue. We have to be vigilant and prevent the spread of Covid-19 together," Dwi said.
On Thursday, June 24, Jakarta recorded a new high in its Covid-19 daily case count with 7,505 infections. Jakarta had 40.900 active cases, with patients treated in hospitals or in self-isolations.
To date, Jakarta's Covid-19 mortality rate stands at 1.7 percent.
