TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Hong Kong authorities as of June 25, have temporarily banned Indonesian passenger airliners from entering the country following the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia.

The official statement from the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong (KJRI Hong Kong) announced in its Facebook account on Thursday that Hong Kong authorities have increased Indonesia’s status to A1 which is the ‘extremely high risk’ category in terms of coronavirus but is temporary and will be reviewed periodically.

This effectively bans the entry of Indonesian nationals to the special administrative region of China.

The consulate general encouraged Indonesians to continue implementing strict health protocols and local Hong Kong policies. They also urged Indonesians residing in the area to register for a vaccination and assured that further developments will be closely monitored.

Indonesians currently in Hong Kong may contact the consulate for further assistance at the WhatsApp hotline +85267730466 or +85268942799.

Reported earlier, Hong Kong authorities banned Indonesians from entering following the finding of four Garuda Indonesia passengers tested positive for Covid-19 on June 20, despite the flag carrier’s boss claiming passengers were thoroughly tested prior to flying.
