TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police traffic director Grand Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo claims the street closures across 10 areas in Jakarta has effectively prevented crowds from gathering, which is what the policy intends to do as the city has logged surging Covid-19 cases.

“Cafes and restaurants located in the streets that are closed have implemented proper health protocols,” said the police officer on Wednesday, June 23.

He also said business owners in the closed streets have complied with the city’s public mobility restriction policy. He deems that the street closures itself can be considered a success.

“There are no traffic congestions and crowds,” said Sambodo.

Following a beefed-up micro PPKM restriction, the following areas are subjected to the closures: Kemang and Bulungan in South Jakarta; Gunawarman and Suryo Streets, South Jakarta; Sabang, Cikini Raya, Asia Afrika in Central Jakarta; BKT in East Jakarta; Kota Tua in West Jakarta; Boulevard Kelapa Gading and PIK area in North Jakarta.
