TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Home Affairs Ministry said the average rate of hospital beds availability for Covid-19 patients was 39.61 percent nation-wide. In several provinces with red zone statuses, the bed availability rate is declining.

"In several provinces, the (hospital occupancy) ratio has exceeded 70 percent," Suhajar Diantoro, executive director at the ministry's Director General of Regional Administration Development, said in a web seminar of the Supreme Audit Agency, Thursday, June 17.

Regional heads, he said, must be alert of the increasingly limited availability of beds in the red zones. Moreover, the coronavirus transmission rate in Indonesia continues to increase after the Eid holiday.

Suhajar said that Indonesia's Covid-19 active cases chart began climbing in June, with a death rate of 2.77 percent, above the global average of 2.16 percent.

The increased risk of death due to the spread of the coronavirus is related to the increase in the number of districts and cities that have a red zone status. Currently, Suhajar said, there are 29 regencies/cities with high risk transmission.
