TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - The Bekasi Regency Government, West Java, has temporarily suspended its online administrative services following the alleged sale of population data.

The Regional Population and Civil Registration Office (Dukcapil) Head Hudaya said the issue has been reported to the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration of the Home Affairs Ministry and the Bekasi Metro Police.

“The information technology team from the Home Affairs Ministry immediately handles it,” said Hudaya in Cikarang, Thursday, June 10.

The agency thus stopped all online applications for residence documents and only served applicants through WhatsApp. “All Dukcapil online services are now off temporarily,” he confirmed.

The regency is still waiting for the Home Affairs Ministry’s instruction for the reopening of the online services, which is depending on the evaluation issued by the IT team. “We are waiting for the Director General’s order because these services across the country are off,” Hudaya added.

Previously reported, millions of population data in a number of areas in the archipelago were allegedly on sale on a forum website. According to the CISSReC study, at least 8,797,669 population data were leaked.

In detail, 3,165,815 population data were from Malang, 2,339,060 from Bekasi Regency, 1,989,263 data from Subang Regency, and 1,303,531 population data from Bogor City.
