TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Minister Johnny G. Plate on Wednesday said the ministry is working on accelerating the construction of digital infrastructure for 2022, which aligns with the central government’s goal towards digital transformation.

Citing Antaranews, the minister said on Wednesday that “In 2021, the Kominfo will complete the construction of 4,200 BTS which are currently being constructed and continued in 2022 with 3,704 new BTS.”

It is eyeing to establish 9,586 base transceiver stations (BTS) that will be spread across the country from the outermost regions of Sabang to Merauke.

Other programs the government has planned in its digital transformation include the optimization of the Palapa Ring network with a total budget of Rp3.5 trillion in 2022 and Rp5.1 trillion in 2023. The ministry will also broaden its internet access points to 78,391 location before the end of 2024.

Satellite capacity will also be improved to 30 Gbps by the end of this year from its current capability of 21 Gbps in June of 2021. The ministry is eyeing to increase the capability to 117 Gbps by the end of 2024. The migration from analogue television to digital will be focused in 2022.

5G infrastructures will also be improved upon in 2022 as the government has prepared new frequencies for mobile broadbands up to 1,000 Mhz and improved to 1,310 Mhz in 2024.
