TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Perikanan Nusantara (Perinus) exported octopuses to Japan with a total transaction of US$71,679.52 or around Rp1.03 billion. The shipment was done on June 4 for a volume of 12,192.4 kilograms, which was the products caught by Perinus Makassar Branch's fishing partners.

"There is a potential for increased fisheries sector's exports at the Fisheries State-Owned Enterprise. This week, Perinus exported octopus to Japan after Perindo exported mackerel to Thailand the previous week," Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (Persero) president director Arief Prasetyo Adi said in an official statement, Sunday June 6th.

The export is a positive indication ahead of the planned merger of Perum Perikanan Indonesia (Perindo) and Perinus. Arief said that the export activity is an effort to improve the business model as the first step towards the merger of Fisheries SOEs.

“In the future, one of the business model plans for the SOE Fisheries that will be merged is by optimizing the off take of fisherman's products while increasing the export market. Therefore, we are optimizing operational performance while doing processing the merger in parallel," he said.

Arief said Perinus has made three export shipments to Japan in the first half of this year. Meanwhile, Perindo has been actively supplying raw fish raw for the export market since January 2021.

According to data from the Marine and Fisheries Ministry, Indonesia is one of the world's top exporting countries of fishery products. In 2020, the total export value of fishery products was US$5.2 billion, of which US$4.84 billion was for consumption fish.
