TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Home Affairs Ministry's director-general of population and civil registration (Dukcapil) Zudan Arif Fakrullah, ordered Dukcapil branch offices in regions that utilize online services to temporarily shut down their services to prevent cyber attacks.

"Yes, it is for security reasons. Only in certain regions where its firewall and security system is not secure enough. They will be shut down to be thoroughly checked," said Zudin as cited by Antaranews on Thursday, June 3, 2021.

Zudin sent out texts to Dukcapil branch heads mentioning issues related to securing the system from cyber attacks against civil registration database. The concern was raised after hackers breached into Dukcapil systems in a number of Regency and Cities.

"I had also ordered online services that do not use VPN to be shut down too," Zudin added.

Fakrullah does not provide confirmation on how long the shut down would last and when the online services would be available again.
