TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Head Boy Rafli Amar paid a working visit to the Kingdom of Jordan. Accompanied with the Director-General of Intelligence Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni, Boy said the visit was aimed to exchange information about the security and the threat of terrorism and radicalism amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Both parties have agreed to strengthen the cooperation, especially regarding the misuse of the internet for terrorism purposes (digital terrorism) and the handling of foreign terrorists,” said the BNPT’s Head of Legal and Public Relations Handy Wibowo in a written statement on Wednesday, June 2.

In the meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan, Boy conveyed Indonesia's willingness to host the Aqaba Process meetings. Aqaba Process is a counter-terrorism program initiated by King Abdullah II.

King Abdullah II, meanwhile, talked of the current phenomenon of takfiri ideology and how to develop a moderate Islam. He said that Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population and high internet users could unconsciously amplify such ideology.

“For this reason, the King asked Indonesia, together with Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, to work together and collaborate, as well as convey this to Saudi Arabia, in order to develop moderate Islam and curb violent ideologies,” Hando added.

The BNPT planned to sign a deal on countering terrorism with the Jordanian Minister of Home Affairs. “The King welcomes and appreciates the cooperation plan,” he said.

Boy Rafli also visited the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center (KASOTC), an independent training center by the armed forces of Jordan, which specifically trains elite troops from around 65 countries in the world.

The KASOTC also asked Indonesia through the BNPT to allow its special force to take part in the 'World Special Forces Competition' in October 2021.
