TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A latest Y-Publica survey report suggested that the electability of Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo outperformed other political figures such as fellow PDIP party member Puan Maharani, who ranked 12th in the survey.

“Ganjar’s electability continues to grow and managed to reach 20.2 percent,” Y-Publica executive director Rudi Hartono wrote in his press statement on Wednesday, May 27.

The Central Java governor’s electability also outshined Prabowo Subianto who had previously scored eminently in several political surveys. In the same survey, Prabowo scored 16.7 percent electability and trailed by Ridwan Kamil scoring 15.9 percent.

Meanwhile, Puan Maharani - the daughter of PDIP leader Megawati Soekarnoputri and current House of Representatives Speaker - scored below 1 percent in terms of her electability with 0.7 percent.

The Y-Publica director found it intriguing that a PDIP party elite had recently criticized Ganjar Pranowo for being overly ambitious towards the future presidential election and even quipped about Pranowo’s favorable social media presence.

Citing Antaranews, Rudi Hartono viewed that positions as regional leaders are likely to be a better strategic position. It could be seen from West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil and Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan's score that also saw respectable electability compared to Puan Maharani.

Assuming the situation remains the same ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election, Rudi Hartono argued that both Ganjar Pranowo and Ridwan Kamil may become a competitive candidate against Prabowo Subianto who has a more established presence in Indonesia’s political realm.

Y-Publica’s survey was conducted on May 1-10 on 1,200 respondents spread across Indonesian provinces and has a margin of error of 2.89 percent.
