TEMPO.CO, Jayapura - Papua Police Chief Insp. Gen. Mathius Fakhiri said it was suspected the armed criminal group (KKB) around the Puncak regency had 70 pieces of varied firearms.

“Some of the firearms were stolen from military and police personnel, while the number of KKB members and its sympathizers is around 150 people,” he said in Jayapura, March 21, 2021.

Fakhiri said law enforcement operations were launched in several points in the regency that became the group’s bases. He explained security personnel had reached and combed Makki village, forcing the KKB to relocate.

“We ask that all military and police personnel in Puncak Jaya regency to stay vigilant and keep their eyes peeled because it was suspected that the KKB was heading for villages in the area,” he said, adding that he had been in touch with the Commander of the Cenderawasih XVII Military Command about the situation.
