TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Commission on Post-Immunization Accidents (Komnas KIPI) said there have been 229 serious adverse events after the Covid-19 vaccination as of May 16, 2021. Hundreds of the reports are part of nearly 11,000 adverse events during the mass immunization program using Sinovac and AstraZeneca.

The reports came from various regions in the country, public reports, and mass media. “There are 229 reports of adverse events. 211 of them are adverse events of Sinovac vaccine, and 18 adverse events of AstraZeneca,” said the Komnas KIPI Chairman Hindra Irawan Satari in the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Jakarta, Thursday, May 20.

Hindra explained that serious adverse events are all medical incidents that cause a person to be hospitalized, suffer disability, death, and spark public unrest. He ensured that all of these cases had been resolved optimally. “No fatal cases. Everyone is saved,” he added.

Additionally, he went on, there are 10,627 non-serious adverse events after vaccination during the same period. Of the number, 9,738 adverse events of jab after Sinovac Covid-19 vaccination, and the rest 889 adverse events of AstraZeneca vaccine.

Hindra said non-serious adverse events are all medical events emerging after immunization that do not pose a potential risk to the health of the vaccine recipient. This also includes anxiety-related events.
