TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The foreign ministers' summit from G7 members in London was hit by a wave of panic after two delegates from India tested positive for Covid-19. The Indian minister and his entire team must therefore self-isolate.

India is attending the G7 summit and was scheduled join meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Was made aware yesterday evening of exposure to possible Covid positive cases," Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Twitter, Reuters reported on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

Because of the situation, Jaishankar said, he decided to conduct his engagements in virtual mode.

A British official confirmed the two positive tests and said the entire Indian delegation was self-isolating. Britain requires 10-day self-isolation period.

The Indian delegation had not yet attended the main summit venue at Lancaster House, and so meetings scheduled for Wednesday went ahead as planned.

When asked to comment, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he would speak with Jaishankar later on Wednesday via Zoom.

Britain is hosting the three-day foreign ministers' meeting, the first one in two years. The summit is billed as an opportunity to restart face-to-face diplomacy and a chance for Western nations to show a united front against threats from China and Russia.
