TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Super Air Jet airline has not yet obtained a commercial operating permit from the Transportation Ministry. Its air operator certificate or AOC is still being processed at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

“There are still a number of requirements that must be met,” said the Transportation Ministry’s spokesperson, Adita Irawati, when contacted by Tempo on Monday, April 3, 2021.

The new carrier was established in March 2021 and is claimed to have the callsign IU from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and SJV from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

News about the emergence of a new carrier began to be circulated in 2020. The Transportation Ministry in October last year confirmed that a legal entity applied for an operator license in September.

Super Air Jet President Director Ari Azhari confirmed that the private airline is not owned by a foreign company. He said his side is preparing to conduct its inaugural flight departure soon.

Previously reported, Super Air Jet was widely rumored to have affiliated with the owner of Lion Air Group, Rusdi Kirana. Lion Air Group spokesman Danang Mandala did not deny the news. However, he stated that the new airline was not related to Lion Air Group.
