TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s number of Covid-19 active cases from April 25 to May 1, 2021, increased to 100,250 from the previous week on April 18-24 at 99,970.

“We must be careful,” said a statistician from Bandung Padjadjaran University, Yuyun Hidayat, on Monday, May 3, 2021.

Since mid-February 2021, the country’s weekly active cases continued to decline. Yuyun predicted that this week’s trend on May 2-8 will range from 79,446-127,951 and for the following week May 9-15 will be around 58,331–132,491.

According to him, the prediction was based on the government’s data. At present, Indonesia has detected 1,672,88 confirmed cases. The figure brought the country to the fourth position of countries with highest cases in Asia.

India was still at the top rank with 19,557,457 cases, followed by Turkey with 4,849,408 cases and Iran with 2,516,157 cases.

In line with the prediction, Yuyun assessed that Indonesia's total caseload will reach 1,696,521 to 1,721,980 on May 2-8 and continue to increase to 1,720,106-1,770,965 on May 9-15.

Previously reported, the spokesperson for the Covid-19 vaccination at the Health Ministry, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said there were indications of an increase in confirmed cases in the past week. The government thus appealed to citizens to continue to comply with and be more disciplined in implementing the predetermined health protocols.
