TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Navy has increased the search status of the missing submarine, KRI Nanggala 402 to subsunk from previously submiss. This was following the finding of parts believed to be from inside the submarine.

“With the authentic pieces of evidence, that are believed to be owned by KRI Nanggala, we declare to increase the search status from submiss to subsunk phase,” said Navy Chief of Staff Laksamana Yudo Margono in an online conference, Saturday, April 24.

The components found near the search location namely pelorus torpedo tube, cooler pipe wrap, submarine periscope lubricant, crew's praying rug, oil spill, and sponge. He believed the parts were owned by KRI Nanggala, based on the statements from former crew and submarine community.

“Those are believed to be parts or components attached inside the submarine which won't be detached out of the ship if there is no pressure from the outside or if the torpedo launcher cracks,” the Indonesian Navy chief explained.
