TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian and United States Marine forces are scheduled to conduct the Keris Marine Exercise (Keris MAREX) in Antarlina, Sukabumi, West Java, from November 23 to December 11, 2023.
This joint military drill is aimed at enhancing military interoperability and maritime domain awareness capabilities, strengthening ties, and promoting regional security and cooperation between the participating militaries.
The inaugural exercise was held in 2022, led by the US Marine forces from the Marine Rotational Force – Southeast Asia (MRF-SEA).
Keris MAREX 2023 would involve at least 150 U.S. Marines and 150 members of the Indonesian Navy's Marine Corps. The military exercises are focused on increasing coastal defense, shooting exercises, multi-crew weapons, and unmanned combined air defense system capabilities.
Participants would also engage with the local community and exchange experts to deepen their shared commitment to regional security and cooperation.
“Keris Marine Exercise 2023 is an important opportunity for the Marine Rotational Force - Southeast Asia, where we participate in jungle warfare exercises in Indonesia. This is more than just an exercise; this is an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the Indonesian Marines and enhance our joint capabilities,” said MRF-SEA Commander Colonel Siverts.
Keris MAREX 23 is the first training exercise for the I Marine Expeditionary Force in Indonesia in 2023.
Indonesian Navy spokesman Colonel Bambang Dillianto said this joint military exercise is a unique opportunity for both parties, and he hoped it will also strengthen the relationship between the two Marine Corps in addressing complex issues in the future.
The Keris MAREX 2023 will conclude with platoon-level infantry training to demonstrate the joint combat capabilities and friendship between the two Marine Corps.
