Grab Indonesia Study: Majority of Drivers Prefer Electric Vehicles

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ride-hailing firm Grab Indonesia conducted a study on the interest towards the use of electric vehicles among its partner drivers for GrabBike and Grabcar. The former is Grab’s service for motorcycle taxis while the latter is its car ride-hailing service.
Country Managing Director Grab Indonesia Neneng Goenadi revealed this interesting study result.
“Eighty-one percent of our partners who operate motorcycle services are very fond of electric motorcycles to serve their customers,” said Neneng Goenadi in a virtual event held by Nexus Indonesia on Thursday, April 15.
In general, the country's managing director said 71 percent of both Grabcar and GrabBike partners prefer electric vehicles compared to vehicles powered by traditional internal combustion engines.
Goenadi explained why electric vehicles have gained traction among its partners; it is due to reasons that EVs are more economical and environmentally friendly. “Electric vehicles are also very silent.”
Moreover, she said that Grab has a number of initiatives to establish an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia and that Grab Indonesia is eyeing to see 26,000 electric vehicles used by its partners before 2025.
