Use of GeNose at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is Being Examined

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Transportation Ministry (Kemenhub) is reportedly studying the possibility of adopting the GeNose Covid-19 screening test services at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The ministry is attempting to gradually introduce this type of screening procedure in air transport facilities.

“Soekarno-Hatta is an airport with the largest passenger volume which needs the best preparation to implement GeNose,” said the ministry’s spokesperson Adita Irawati on Wednesday, April 14.

The ministry has permitted the use of this homegrown screening device - which utilizes breath samples - as a requirement prior to traveling on air transport since April 1, 2021.

The first phase sees eight airports adopting this alternative that consists of three airports run by state-airport operators Angkasa Pura I and five others under the management of Angkasa Pura II.

The five airports under Angkasa Pura II management that will offer the GeNose services are: West Java’s Husein Sastranegara International Airport, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Palembang Airport, H.A.S Hanandjoeddin Tanjung Pandan International, Depati Amir Pangkal Pinang Airport, and Sultan Thaha Jambi Airport.

The three airports under Angkasa Pura I are the Yogyakarta International Airport, Juanda Surabaya Airport, and the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali.
