TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 vaccination program held by Bekasi City officials will go on as planned despite the Muslim’s holy month of Ramadan, which aligns with the indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) fatwa.

The Bekasi City head of disease control and prevention, Dezy Syukrawati, said on Monday that the technical execution of the vaccination will be conducted accordingly to the vaccination directive that has been implemented nationwide.

“The vaccination will continue, the MUI does not prevent this so it will go on,” said Syukrawati on Monday, April 12.

Syukrawati also elaborates that there will be no changes in screening procedure for vaccine receivers despite the Muslim majority will be fasting during the day in Ramadan.

The vaccination program in Bekasi City has entered its second phase which prioritizes public servants, the elderly, workers in the field of healthcare services, and healthcare workers who have not received their vaccines during the first national vaccination phase.

The local government is eyeing to vaccinate 296,786 people after the city had successfully vaccinated 14,060 healthcare workers in the first phase.
