TEMPO.CO, Sidoarjo - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded a 6.7 magnitude earthquake from the sea in Malang Regency, East Java on Saturday, April 10, at 14:00 local time. The tremors were felt in a number of regions in East Java.

A Malang resident, Indyah, said that she and her neighbors were surprised and burst out of their houses when the quake shook. "I thought it was just an ordinary one, but we ran out of house," she said when confirmed through WhatsApp.

The quake was also felt in Surabaya and Sidoarjo. "Sidoarjo was shaking," said two residents, Rina Susanti and Dea Sari.

Spokesperson of BMKG in Juanda, Teguh Tri Susanto, confirmed that the quake was from the sea, 90 kilometer southwest of Malang. "At the depth of 25 kilometer," he explained.
