TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria appealed to protesters who urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to arrest Governor Anies Baswedan to not thoughtlessly voice concerns. Riza argued that a demonstration must also be based on facts and data.

“Don’t speak thoughtlessly, let alone speak about corruption. Be careful,” said Riza at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

Previous reports suggested that protestors claiming to be members of the Islamic Student Association (HMI) MPO held a rally from the Proclamation Monument to the City Hall on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

Riza allowed residents to voice their aspirations. Anies and all staffers of the city government also understand the importance of preventing corruption.

Jakarta, he added, continues to ensure that the capital is free of corruption. “Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), Jakarta, Pak Anies is honored with an anti-corruption award.”

The information on the planned rally circulated on social media. The event’s poster showed a call to arrest Anies Baswedan. HMI MPO chairman Affandi Ismail denied the rally, clarifying that his organization did not have an agenda for demonstrations against Anies.
